March 24 MLA Webcast on DVD Only

For those members who could not make the March 24 viewing of MLA’s Webcast, Now’s the Time: Understanding the Electronic Health Record Maze and Health Librarians’ Roles, at Straub Hospital, a DVD will be made available once Lee Adams, Continuing Education Chair, receives the Chapter’s copy in the mail.

NLM is no longer offering online On-demand access to the Webcasts.

Thank You for Participating!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Annual Chapter Meeting held last Friday, March 12 at the UH, School of Medicine, Health Sciences Library!

Special thanks to the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific-Southwest Region Medical Library, especially Julie Kwan, Acting Associate Director, and Kay Deeney, Education Coodinator for sharing their time and expertise with the Chapter!

We hope that everyone had a memorable time reconnecting with colleagues in addition to learning all about MLA and RML activities and services.  We hope to see everyone again soon!

MLA Webcast: March 24, 2010

What: MLA Webcast:  Now’s the Time: Understanding the Electronic Health Record Maze and Health Sciences Librarians Roles (see description below)

When: Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 8am – 10am  Please arrive by 7:45am for coffee & donuts, and the door must be shut at 8am.  So, please be prompt!

As you leave the garage you walk past the cafeteria on the left.
Go into the cafeteria and past the cashiers and make a quick left to the Doctors Dining Room

Goals of the Webcast:
The goal of this program is to clarify the terminology surrounding the emerging electronic health information environment and to illustrate how and why health sciences librarians can and should become engaged with the efforts to achieve the national 2014 goal of instituting an electronic health record for each person in the United States.

Program Objectives

  • To remove the ambiguity and confusion revolving around the electronic health environment. Technology, management, and the exchange of health information will be discussed.
  • To illustrate the emerging electronic health information environment by profiling working electronic medical records (EMRs), electronic health records (EHRs), and personal health records (PHRs).
  • To highlight the recent involvement health sciences librarians have had with EMRs, EHRs, and PHRs.

Annual Meeting – Room Change!

UPDATE for those attending this year’s Chapter Annual Meeting at the Health Sciences Library at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, John A. Burns School of Medicine next week…

The meeting will take place in the Health Sciences Library and NOT on the 2nd floor as previously announced.  In case you arrive late and miss the 8:00-8:25 a.m. refreshments in the Kulia Grill, please head straight for the Library on the 1st floor.

The meeting will start promptly at 8:30 a.m. in the Library’s Quiet Reading Room.

At some point, the group will move into the Library’s Computer lab (adjacent the Quiet Reading Room) for the hands-on portion of the PubMed training with Kay Deeney, NN/LM RSR Education Coordinator.
